Dear Colleagues,

I am delighted to announce that Wayne H. Bowen, Ph.D., has been appointed a Professor and Associate Dean of the College of Undergraduate Studies (CUGS). In this role, he will provide leadership for developing and implementing policies and practices for undergraduate students at the University of Center Florida (UCF) and in the college.

He joined CUGS in 2017 and has held numerous leadership roles, including serving as the college’s Interim Associate Dean, Interim Director for Study Abroad, and Director of Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS). He also provides oversight for UCF’s General Education Program. Dr. Bowen’s many accomplishments include launching the college’s innovative Environmental Studies and Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) degree programs.

Dr. Bowen is a leader and scholar. He is a retired Colonel from the Army Reserve. He served for 30 years and did tours in Iraq and Bosnia. Dr. Bowen is also a Professor of History at UCF. He is a historian of Spain, with six published books in this field and three additional ones on the Middle East.

Dr. Bowen earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in European History from Northwestern University, a Master of Strategic Studies from the US Army War College, and a B.A. in History from the University of Southern California.

We will be launching a national search for the Director of IDS. In the interim, Danielle Maya Pratt (Eadens), Ph.D., will serve as the IDS Director.
