If you tuned in to Wheel of Fortune on April 4, you might have seen a familiar face. UCF Pre-Medical student and Biomedical Sciences major Shellyann Tyrell competed on the live game show where contestants solve word puzzles to win cash and prizes. Being on Wheel of Fortune was the chance of a lifetime for the graduating senior, one that came as a huge surprise.
She applied for the game show on a whim in 2014 and forgot about it after not hearing a response for years.

UCF alumni Chris Castro (IDS ’10) and Brittany Sellers are transforming Orlando into a more environmentally friendly city. One of their many ongoing projects is at city hall, where they’re replacing the building’s technology with energy efficient technology. During his time at college, Castro started IDEAS for UCF, a student organization that focuses on making the campus more sustainable. He joined Mayor Buddy Dyer’s sustainability department in 2014 and started working on the Green Works initiative.

Sarah Alam is the 2017 recipient of the “Dr. O.M. ‘Budd’ Berringer Pre-Health Professions Endowed Scholarship.” Ms. Alam will begin medical school at Wright States’ Boonshoft School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio. She plans to use the $1,000 scholarship to help pay for educational expenses. Dr. Berringer’s wife, Dr. Lynn Berringer, who is a retired pediatrician, presented the scholarship.
