Sarah Alam is the 2017 recipient of the “Dr. O.M. ‘Budd’ Berringer Pre-Health Professions Endowed Scholarship.” Ms. Alam will begin medical school at Wright States’ Boonshoft School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio. She plans to use the $1,000 scholarship to help pay for educational expenses. Dr. Berringer’s wife, Dr. Lynn Berringer, who is a retired pediatrician, presented the scholarship.
Dr. Lynn Berringer created the scholarship as a tribute to her late husband, who served as a mentor to hundreds of UCF Pre-Health students preparing for a career in the medical and health professions. In his memory, the Pre-Health advising aspect of the Office of Pre-Health of Pre-Law Advising was renamed the “Dr. O.M. “Budd” Berringer Pre-Health Advising.”
For 21 years, the late Dr. Berringer, “Dr. B” as students affectionately called him, was the Director of the Pre-Health Professions Advisement Office, and was a full professor in the department of Molecular Biology and Microbiology.
