GEP Assessment Updates

BY ANNABELLE CONROY, PH.D., GEP FACULTY FELLOW

I hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing winter break and is having a fantastic start to 2025! I want to extend my gratitude to everyone who participated in the GEP assessment process in Fall 2024. Your contributions are vital for gathering the necessary data to evaluate the program and advance in the accreditation process.

This term, we will continue the GEP assessment process by requesting each faculty member teaching a GEP course to include an assignment that measures at least one of the foundation’s learning outcomes. Please remember that the GEP assessment deadline is the withdrawal deadline, which is Friday, March 28 at 11:59 p.m. You can complete the assessment anytime before this date.

Your GEP assessment can take the format that best suits your class. If you use a quiz for the assessment, consider switching to the New Quiz tool. Eventually, the New Quiz tool will be the only option for quizzes, so it’s a good idea to start transitioning now.

If you conducted an assessment last term and have copied your course to this term, you may use the same assessment. For those teaching a GEP course for the first time, please refer to the General Education Faculty Learning Community for guidance on how to conduct an assessment. Feel free to reach out if you need further assistance. Additionally, we will hold several virtual drop-in help sessions (after Spring Break) for anyone with questions or needing help setting up an assignment.

Also, if you are interested in being part of the GEP Assessment task force, please let me know. During the spring term, the GEP assessment task force will meet to review the assessment results and process. We will begin meeting at the end of January and usually meet once a month.

If you have any questions, please email me or the GEP mailbox.

Apply for the new Certificate of GEP Engagement!

Looking to showcase your dedication to general education? This certificate recognizes UCF faculty and graduate students who have demonstrated their commitment to general education and student success through consistent participation in GEP professional development events, including workshops, webinars, and collaborative learning sessions.

Qualifying events include GEP workshops, webinars, Bites & Banter sessions, assessment drop-in sessions, Afternoon Tea with the GEP, and the Summer Institute GEP Track.

This certificate serves as valuable documentation for teaching portfolios, annual evaluations, promotion applications, and award nominations. It provides tangible evidence of your ongoing engagement with pedagogical development and dedication to student success.

Ready to apply? Eligible faculty who meet the above criteria may submit their application through May 7.

Showcase Your Course at Spring Fling!

Share the innovative spirit of your classroom at this year’s Spring Fling Academic Showcase on March 5! The GEP Team invites faculty to contribute photos and course assignments that showcase the dynamic learning experiences you create for our students.

Whether it’s photos of student projects in action, field trips that brought learning to life, or examples of unique assignments that sparked student engagement, we want to celebrate your creative approaches to teaching and learning.

This is your opportunity to:

  • Demonstrate the diverse learning experiences in our general education courses
  • Share successful assignments that have resonated with students
  • Highlight the hands-on and experiential aspects of your courses

Contributing is easy! Simply submit:

  • Photos from your course activities (please ensure privacy by submitting images where student faces are not identifiable)
  • Sample assignments or project guidelines that showcase your unique teaching approach
  • A brief description providing context for your materials

Your contributions will be prominently displayed during Spring Fling, offering visitors a window into the enriching educational experiences that make our General Education Program special.

Submit any items to gep@ucf.edu no later than Feb. 28.
