We are pleased to announce seven professional development awards designed to support teaching faculty in enhancing their skills and engaging in activities that improve student success within the General Education Program (GEP). Three awards of $1,000 and four awards of $500 are available to fund professional development opportunities such as research, travel, workshops, conferences, or other forms of academic engagement.

These awards are aimed at fostering faculty growth and improving the quality of GEP courses by supporting activities that have a direct and meaningful connection to course curriculum and student outcomes. Strong proposals will clearly demonstrate how the proposed professional development activity will lead to enhancements in teaching practices and, ultimately, student academic success in GEP courses. Examples of eligible activities include:

  • Presenting research or creative work related to the GEP at a professional conference or similar event.
  • Conducting research or engaging in professional activities directly related to a GEP course or courses, with a focus on improving content or pedagogy.
  • Developing a specific skill or competency that is directly relevant to teaching or enhancing GEP courses (e.g., new teaching methods, technology integration, or inclusive practices).
  • Participating in a conference or professional meeting that includes a defined sequence of sessions, plenaries, workshops, or other events specifically related to GEP course content or pedagogy.

Eligibility: Full-time faculty members (tenured, tenure-earning, or non-tenure-earning) who are teaching at least a 25% GEP course load, including Summer courses. GEP Fellows and GEP Foundation Area Co-Leads are also encouraged to apply.

Applications should include a clear explanation of how the professional development activity will enhance your teaching in GEP courses and its anticipated impact on student learning and success. Please review specific instructions here. The application deadline is October 11, 2024. Questions? Email the GEP mailbox.
