Summer 2020 – HIP Course Designation Virtual Bootcamp

Adapt and prepare your course to apply for the Integrative-Learning Experience (IE) or Research Intensive (RI) course designations in this four-day virtual bootcamp held through Zoom video conferencing. 

Meeting Times:  Monday, May 4 through Thursday, May 7, plus an individual or team meeting scheduled for the week of May 11

Location:  Virtual meetings via Zoom  

Grant:  Participants will receive $500 for completion of bootcamp sessions and deliverables submitted on Thursday, May 7^th by 5:00pm 

Deliverable:  A completed application draft for either the Integrative-Learning Experience (IE) or Research Intensive (RI) course designation and a single PowerPoint slide summarizing your course. 

Proposals Due:  April 22, 2020 

UCF aims to provide students with the best undergraduate education in the state of Florida. To support this goal, the university introduced two new High-Impact Educational Practices (HIPs) Course Designations to go along with the existing Service-Learning (SL) designation: Integrative-Learning Experience (IE) and Research Intensive (RI). Courses can be course-level or instructor-level submissions. 

HIPs give students opportunities to excel in and out of the classroom. These new designations are available to help faculty document their HIPs courses and to allow students to quickly identify them during registration. Faculty interested in adapting/ revising a course to prepare to apply for the Integrative-Learning Experience (IE) or Research Intensive (RI) designation have the opportunity to apply for this four-day virtual bootcamp. Participants will learn about the application process, develop their courses, and work hands-on with their peers to create course plans and assignments. 

Space is limited. To apply to participate in the  virtual bootcamp, please email to QEP@ucf.edu a syllabus for the course you are interested in designating (if you have not previously taught the course, you will need to submit a syllabus draft), along with your answers to the following questions: 

Are you working individually or in a group (if group, who else is in your group) 
Which designation are you hoping to apply for (IE or RI)? 
Is this a brand-new course or an existing course you are updating? 
When will you next teach this course? 
Are you equipped for video conferencing through Zoom? 
What specific topics or resources  are you hoping to learn about in developing your course?

11:15am–12:00 pm–Course Designation Breakout Meetings  
1:00–5:00pm–individuals and teams work on projects; small-group peer review (groups schedule independently); cohort leaders available for one-on-one consultations with participants

Tuesday, May 5:  

10:00am–10:45am–Course Designation Check-In Meetings  
12:00pm–5:00pm– individuals and teams work on projects; small-group peer review (groups schedule independently); cohort leaders available for one-on-one consultations with participants

Wednesday, May 6:  

10:00am–10:45am–Course Designation Check-In Meetings  
12:00pm–5:00pm–individuals and teams work on projects; small-group peer review (groups schedule independently); cohort leaders available for one-on-one consultations with participants

Thursday, May 7:  

10:00am–10:45am–Course Designation Check-In Meetings; Wrap-Up  
Deliverable due by 5:00pm

May 11-15:  individuals and teams schedule meetings with cohort leaders, approximately 30 minutes, to discuss your application and receive feedback. Scheduled by your availability.
